“What about love when you have three months left to live?”

In Norway, in the days before Christmas, Anja (Andrea Bræin Hovig) and Tomas (Stellan Skarsgård) share a house with their children, after twenty years together that have left them living past each other. Then a diagnosis arrives that gives Anja only three months to live, and Maria Sødahl, drawing on her own experience, keeps the camera close to the family. Anja has to work out how to spend the time she has left beside a man she had stopped reaching for.
