Hope and Glory

London in the early years of the Second World War, seen through the eyes of Billy Rohan, a boy growing up in the suburbs while the city is bombed. John Boorman draws on his own childhood, with Grace Rohan (Sarah Miles) trying to keep her family together as her husband Clive (David Hayman) goes off to the war. At the center is a mother and her son, each trying to hold the other up through years the grown man still remembers.
