“When life fell apart, love fell into place.”

Birdee Pruitt (Sandra Bullock) learns on live television that her husband Bill has been sleeping with her best friend, then packs up her daughter Bernice and drives back to her small Texas hometown. Forest Whitaker stays close to a woman living under her mother Ramona's (Gena Rowlands) roof, where old acquaintances are glad to see her down and Justin (Harry Connick Jr.) is the one who isn't. Starting over means standing where everyone watched her fall.
