Hornblower: The Examination for Lieutenant

Aboard a British warship in the Napoleonic wars, Acting Lieutenant Hornblower (Ioan Gruffudd) sits down with his books, trying to prepare for the examination that will make his rank permanent. Andrew Grieve keeps the camera on the ship's stores and the men who have to live off them, and the supply problems keep pulling Hornblower from his studying. Sir Edward Pellew (Robert Lindsay), who has his own measure of the young man, watches to see which duty he chooses.
