Sofia (Emma Mackey) wants a life that isn't arranged around her mother's wheelchair, though she has spent years pushing it. She and Rose (Fiona Shaw) travel to Almería to see Dr. Gomez (Vincent Perez), a physician who may hold the cure for an illness no one has been able to name. Rebecca Lenkiewicz sets them in a bleached Spanish town where Ingrid (Vicky Krieps) offers Sofia a freedom that Rose's need could close off.
