Hôtel du Nord

Renée (Annabella) is a young woman without steady work who takes a room at the Hôtel du Nord, a Parisian boarding house on the Canal St. Martin, with her lover Pierre (Jean-Pierre Aumont). A gunshot nearly ends them, and the hotel's other residents, among them Raymonde (Arletty) and Monsieur Edmond (Louis Jouvet), keep living around the wreckage. Marcel Carné lets Renée stay at the center of it, a girl with nothing to hold but the hope of love.
