Hour of the Star

In São Paulo, Macabéa (Marcélia Cartaxo) arrives from the northeast after her aunt's death, takes a typist's job and a bed in a boarding house shared with three other women. Suzana Amaral follows her through the radio station called Time, Sundays on the metro, and a courtship with Olímpico (José Dumont), who talks of becoming a congressman. Macabéa is poor and overlooked, and the city leaves her very little room to take up.
