Hour of the Wolf
“The hour of the wolf is the hour between night and dawn. It is the hour when most people die, when sleep is the deepest, when nightmares feel most real.”
Johan Borg (Max von Sydow) is a painter who has taken his pregnant wife to a remote island to work, and he cannot sleep. Ingmar Bergman lets Alma (Liv Ullmann) sit up beside him through the small hours, listening as he describes what he sees in the dark. She wants to follow him wherever it goes, and the island offers her no one else to ask.
