House by the River

“WOMEN SPOKE OF HER with Scorn...MEN THOUGHT OF HER with Longing!”

The house stands beside a river in a small Victorian-era town, home to Stephen Byrne (Louis Hayward), a wealthy writer whose books have not made him the man he wants to be. Fritz Lang watches Stephen's long resentment of his brother John (Lee Bowman) harden into a crime after a night with the family maid. Through it all, Marjorie Byrne (Jane Wyatt) sits across from a husband she is slowly learning to fear.
