In 9th century China, a blind dancer named Xiao Mei (Zhang Ziyi) sits in a prison cell, and nothing about her is what it first appears to be. The captain Jin (Takeshi Kaneshiro) breaks her out and escorts her toward the rebels of the Flying Daggers, with Zhang Yimou's soldiers hunting them through the whole journey. Jin is meant to be only her guide, and the closer he stays to her, the less that holds.
