House of Games
“Human nature is a sucker bet.”
Dr. Margaret Ford (Lindsay Crouse), a psychiatrist with a bestselling book behind her, walks into a poker den on behalf of a patient who owes a dangerous debt. There she meets Mike (Joe Mantegna), a smooth-talking grifter who offers to settle it and shows her how his world works. David Mamet, in his first film as director, keeps her moving toward that world, and every step costs her more of what she has.
