How Green Was My Valley

(1941)Directed by John Ford118 minDrama
“Rich is their humor! Deep are their passions! Reckless are their lives! Mighty is their story!”

Huw Morgan (Roddy McDowall) is the youngest son in a proud Welsh mining family, a boy with a head for books growing up among men who go down the pit every day. At the dawn of the twentieth century a strike splits the household, with the older sons demanding better pay and their father, Gwilym (Donald Crisp), unwilling to rock the boat. John Ford tells it as Huw's memory, a valley and a family looked back on from a distance.
