In 2003 New York, Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) writes a women's magazine column and has ten days to prove she can drive a man away. Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey) is an advertising executive who has bet he can make a woman fall for him in the same ten days. Donald Petrie sets them on a collision course, and neither knows the other is playing, so every date is a quiet contest between two people who want to win.
