Finn Dodd (Winona Ryder), a graduate student about to be married, starts to suspect her fiancé is cheating and goes to Grasse, California, to think it over. She stays with her grandmother Hy (Ellen Burstyn) and great aunt Glady Joe Cleary (Anne Bancroft), who belong to a circle of passionate quilters. Jocelyn Moorhouse has the women trade stories of their own loves while they work, and Finn listens, still unsure what she'll go home to.
