Dino Ossola (Fabrizio Bentivoglio), a small-time property agent, wants a way into the rich circle of Giovanni Bernaschi (Fabrizio Gifuni), whose daughter is dating his own. The night before Christmas Eve, a cyclist is knocked off the road by a jeep, and two families are tied to the same event. Paolo Virzì follows how Dino and Giovanni, along with Giovanni's wife Carla (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), each get pulled toward the other.
