In 1999, Franck (Jalil Lespert) comes home to a factory town to take a trainee manager's post in the Human Resources department of the plant where his father (Jean-Claude Vallod), anxious and taciturn, has worked for 23 years. Laurent Cantet fills the floor with non-professional actors, so the workers look like workers. The son now sits on the management side, the father still stands at his machine, and the distance between them is the work itself.
