“Hollywood highs and L.A. lows”

Eddie (Sean Penn), a casting director in Hollywood, spends his days and nights talking with his roommate Mickey (Kevin Spacey) and a rotating cast of friends and lovers, among them Phil (Chazz Palminteri), Artie (Garry Shandling) and Darlene (Robin Wright). Each of them is looking for a direction and finding mostly one another's problems. Anthony Drazan keeps the camera close and the talk overlapping, working from David Rabe's own adaptation of his play.
