Hysteria

(2011)Directed by Tanya Wexler100 min · RComedy, Romance
“A comedy about the birth of the vibrator in Victorian England.”

Dr. Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy) is a young physician in Victorian London who wants a practice of his own and keeps getting dismissed from hospitals for believing in germs. He finds steady work with Dr. Robert Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce), who treats women's hysteria by hand. Tanya Wexler stages it all in lamplit consulting rooms, where Mortimer sits with his aching hand in his lap.
