In 1944, Jimmy Wilson (Robert Lowell) comes home each night to Dan (John Miljan) and Mrs. Wilson (Vivienne Osborne), two parents too deep in drink to notice what he does with his evenings. He falls in with shady men and falls for a lounge singer, Kitty Reed (Mary Beth Hughes), and runs jobs for her boss to win her over. Sam Newfield builds the story around the two of them, a boy wanting someone to watch him and a woman who does.
