Elizabeth Smart (Alana Boden) is a girl taken from her family's home, and the film tells what follows from her side. Brian David Mitchell (Skeet Ulrich) and Wanda Barzee (Deirdre Lovejoy) keep her, while her parents Ed (George Newbern) and Lois (Anne Openshaw) wait and search. Sarah Walker has the real Elizabeth Smart narrate over the scenes, breaking into them so the viewer cannot sit back from what she lived through.
