“An existential comedy”

Albert Markovski (Jason Schwartzman) is an environmental activist who can't stop wondering why a tall stranger keeps turning up in his life, and he wants an answer. He hires the Jaffes (Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin), a married pair of existential detectives who trail him and sort through his days. David O. Russell sends Albert through a run of strange, talky investigations, and Albert keeps asking questions that no one in the film can answer for him.
