I Killed My Mother
“Sons forget their mothers can die.”
Hubert Minel (Xavier Dolan) is seventeen and wants one thing from his mother, Chantale (Anne Dorval): to stop being her son. Everything about her gets on him, from the way she eats to the clothes she wears, and the arguments in their house in Quebec pile up faster than either of them can walk away from. Dolan, who wrote, directed and stars, was twenty when he made it, and the last thing we see is the banks of the Saint Lawrence River, where Hubert grew up.
