Hong Kong in 1988 is under attack from a gang of criminals who have built two killer robots, one of them modeled on their own female thug, Maria. When the robot is damaged mid-job, Curly (John Shum Kin-Fun), an inventor working for the police, captures her and reprograms her to think for herself. David Chung hands the reprogrammed Pioneer 2 to Sally Yeh (Chian-Wen), who sits among the inventor's wires and workbench tools, waiting to find out who she is.
