Melvin Hoover (Donald O'Connor), a young photographer for Look magazine, collides with a chorus girl named Judy LeRoy (Debbie Reynolds) in the park and talks his way into shooting a photo spread of her. His boss has no plans to print it, and Judy's father would sooner see her marry the steady Harry Black. Don Weis stages the Technicolor numbers around the pair, and Melvin's promise of a Look cover is really a promise that she can trust him.
