Nobody in Los Angeles can say where Norma Shannon (Janet Blair) came from before she married, and the husband who has money to spend wants it found out. He hires Stuart Bailey (Franchot Tone), a private detective, and S. Sylvan Simon sends him through the case's tangle of women, among them Mrs. Caprillo (Janis Carter) and Boots Nestor (Adele Jergens). Bailey takes the job for the fee, but every answer he digs up only makes him want the next.
