Los Angeles in 1968, and Harold Fine (Peter Sellers) is a 35-year-old lawyer who dreads both middle age and his own upcoming wedding. Then he meets Nancy (Leigh Taylor-Young), a young hippie who bakes "groovy" brownies, and Hy Averback follows Harold as he decides to drop out and live her way. The last thing we see is the plate on the table, the brownies cut into neat squares.
