I’m Going Home

(2001)Directed by Manoel de Oliveira90 minDrama, Comedy

Gilbert Valence (Michel Piccoli), a 76-year-old actor in Paris, is on stage when he learns that his wife, daughter and son-in-law have died in a car crash. He is left to raise his young grandson while the offers keep coming, a flashy television role and a rushed replacement part in an English-language Ulysses. Manoel de Oliveira follows an old man trying to work out how much of a life still belongs to him once the people he lived it with are gone.
