I Married a Witch

(1942)Directed by René Clair77 minRomance, Fantasy, Comedy
“No man can resist her!”

Jennifer (Veronica Lake) wants revenge on the Wooley family, whose Puritan ancestor had her burned as a witch in the 17th century. Freed after centuries, she sets out to wreck the life of his descendant, the ambitious Wallace Wooley (Fredric March), just as he prepares to marry Estelle Masterson (Susan Hayward). René Clair stages the mischief as screwball comedy, but her father Daniel (Cecil Kellaway) is watching, and her spell may cost her more than she planned.
