I Walk the Line

(1970)Directed by John Frankenheimer97 min · PG-13Drama
“Sheriff Tawes walks the line between duty and desire, between law and violence, between honor and shame”

Sheriff Henry Tawes (Gregory Peck) has spent years in a rural Tennessee county judging other men's failings, and he goes home each night to a marriage that has gone cold. Then he meets Alma McCain (Tuesday Weld), the young daughter of a local moonshiner, and he starts bending the law to keep her near. John Frankenheimer sets the affair in grainy, close quarters, where what Henry wants from Alma and what she wants from him never quite match.
