I Want to Go Home

Joey Wellman (Adolph Green), a cartoonist from Cleveland mostly forgotten at home, arrives in Paris for an exhibition on the French comic strip that includes his work. He is also there to see his daughter Elsie (Laura Benson), two years into her studies and keeping her distance from everything American. Alain Resnais builds the weekend that follows around a country house and a costume party, then lets the whole cast drift through it like figures on a page.
