I Was Born, But...

In the Tokyo suburbs of 1932, two brothers, Keiji (Tomio Aoki) and Ryoichi (Hideo Sugawara), arrive in a new neighborhood after their father Yoshi (Tatsuo Saitō), an office clerk, gets promoted. The boys start at the bottom of the local gang, then beat a bully and find themselves running it, until a visit to their father's boss shows them how Yoshi earns his living. Ozu films this silent comedy in black and white and keeps his attention at the children's eye level.
