A team of Arctic researchers cut a man out of the ice and thaw him back to life. He has been frozen for 40,000 years. Anthropologist Stanley Shephard (Timothy Hutton) wants to befriend him and learn who he was, while Diane Brady (Lindsay Crouse) and her surgical team want the secret of how his body survived. Fred Schepisi puts the stranger Charlie (John Lone) between those two appetites, a frozen man in a lab, and everyone around him asking for his past or his body.
