“Both Living a Secret...each afraid to tell!”

It is Christmas in a small Midwestern town, and Mary Marshall (Ginger Rogers) has come home on a furlough from the prison where she is serving six years for manslaughter. On the train she meets Zachary Morgan (Joseph Cotten), an army sergeant on leave from a military hospital, still prone to panic attacks. William Dieterle follows the two through the holiday week, and Mary keeps quiet about where she goes back to when it ends.
