Victor Scott (Edward G. Robinson) is a district attorney who wants to be remembered as the man who never lost a case, until a man he sent to the chair turns out to have been innocent. Lewis Allen follows him into private practice, where a drunken Scott takes on the clients nobody respectable will touch. Ellen Miles (Nina Foch) still believes in him, but his reputation, his career and his name are all on the line.
