“Married love or illicit. Which does the modern girl prefer?”

In 1931, Anne Vincent (Barbara Stanwyck) lives openly with Dick Ives (James Rennie), her lover, because she holds that marriage would kill what they have. Archie Mayo's film follows the two as friends and family press them to make it legal, and Dick keeps asking. Anne, who never wanted the ring, finally gives in and takes the vow she once thought would ruin them.
