In Hell's Kitchen, a family of Irish immigrants has taken an apartment on the mean streets, still grieving the death of a child. Johnny (Paddy Considine) and Sarah (Samantha Morton) are raising their daughters Christy (Sarah Bolger) and Ariel (Emma Bolger) there, and the story is seen through the elder girl's eyes. Jim Sheridan wrote it with his daughters, and the two girls watch the building around them, their parents moving through its rooms.
