Paul Prior (Matthew Macfadyen), a war photographer who left New Zealand years ago, wants only to bury his father and get out again. He gets pulled into the town he fled instead, into a strained reunion with his brother Andrew (Colin Moy) and a friendship with the teenage Celia (Emily Barclay), who dreams of becoming a writer. Brad McGann sets the story in the dry, wide country of Otago, and when Celia disappears, Paul is the one the town looks at.
