In the Beginning

In present-day France, Philippe Miller (François Cluzet) passes himself off as the boss of a construction crew building a highway extension, and he has hired dozens of workers on the strength of it. The money is easy until he meets Stéphane (Emmanuelle Devos), the mayor of a small village the road is meant to cross. Xavier Giannoli keeps the camera close on Cluzet's face as the lie grows past his control.
