In the Crosswind
At 3 a.m. on June 14, 1941, Soviet soldiers begin deporting more than 40,000 people from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Siberia. Erna (Laura Peterson-Aardam), a philosophy student and young mother, is separated from her husband and sent east with her small daughter. Martti Helde stages the story in frozen living tableaus, and what Erna has to hold onto across fifteen years is her hope of going home.
