In the Name of the Law

Guido Schiavi (Massimo Girotti) is a young judge who believes the law applies to everyone, and he takes a post in a Sicilian village where a baron's family and the local mafia decide what gets reported. His closest contacts there are the baron (Camillo Mastrocinque) and the brigadier Grifò (Saro Urzì), neither one eager to see him do the job. Pietro Germi shoots the village and its people close to the ground, in the plain manner of Italian neorealism.
