In the Time of the Butterflies

“Women had their place. Hers was in the revolution.”

The Dominican Republic is under the rule of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo (Edward James Olmos), and the Mirabal sisters grow up inside his regime. Minerva (Salma Hayek Pinault) and her sisters turn to activism after government troops kill members of their family, and Mariano Barroso follows them as opposition becomes their daily work. Each step brings Minerva, Mate (Mía Maestro) and Dedé (Pilar Padilla) closer to a dictator who answers resistance with killing.
