“The journey to freedom has no borders.”
Jamal (Jamal Udin Torabi) is a young Afghan living in a refugee camp at Peshawar, and he wants to get to London. He sets out with his older cousin Enayat (Enayatullah), paying smugglers and bribing their way overland, through a snowy pass into Turkey and then toward a freight container on a ship bound for Italy. Michael Winterbottom shoots it like a documentary, and Jamal carries the whole trip on his shoulders.
