“You'll Never Forget...”

A destroyer called the HMS Torrin sinks in the Mediterranean, and the film starts from what comes after, with survivors clinging to a raft and remembering the ship from its construction onward. Noël Coward and David Lean, in his first turn as a director, follow Ordinary Seaman Shorty Blake (John Mills). At the center is Captain Kinross (Coward), the only commander the Torrin ever had, who drills his men to be loyal to the ship and to themselves.
