Twenty years after the first invasion, Earth has been rebuilding with the alien technology left behind, and a new defense program now guards the planet. Then the aliens return, with a force the program was never built to stop. Roland Emmerich puts David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), pilot Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth) and former President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) in the same fight, and each of them has to decide how much of himself to risk.
