Anna Kalman (Ingrid Bergman), a successful actress, has stopped expecting to meet the man she wanted, and she is saying so to her sister when Philip Adams (Cary Grant) walks in the door. Stanley Donen sets the two of them in London drawing rooms and over dinner tables, where every glance carries a little more than the talk does. Anna and Philip like each other at once, and both are slow to say how much.
