Industrial Symphony No. 1: The Dream of the Brokenhearted

Her boyfriend has ended things, and the Heartbroken Woman (Laura Dern) is left with Nicolas Cage as the Heartbreaker. Her dreamself (Julee Cruise) rises into the air above an industrial wasteland and sings ballads of love. David Lynch directed this 50-minute stage piece with music by Angelo Badalamenti, and the singer hangs over the ruins while the woman below is still holding the loss.
