“The Birth of a Legend.”

Yan (Shawn Yue) and Ming (Edison Chen) are young men in 1991 Hong Kong who each want a place inside the Triads, though neither stands where the other believes he does. Alan Mak and Andrew Lau follow them through the years of a violent power struggle that comes to a head around the 1997 handover. Ngai Wing-hau (Francis Ng) and Hon Sam (Eric Tsang) are circling the same territory, and every year it grows harder for the young men to get out.
