Inherent Vice
“Love usually leads to trouble.”
Larry "Doc" Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) is a stoned private investigator in Los Angeles at the turn of the 1970s, well-meaning and not much good at keeping his thoughts in a line. His ex-girlfriend Shasta Fay (Katherine Waterston) turns up asking for help, and then she is gone. Paul Thomas Anderson follows Doc through the case, and Shasta stays in his head the whole way.
