“How fast is 1 second?”

On the mountain roads of Japan, a tofu shop's delivery runs are the only training Takumi Fujiwara (Jay Chou) has ever had, driven in his father Bunta's (Anthony Wong Chau-sang) Toyota AE86. Andrew Lau and Alan Mak adapt the manga so that Takumi's first win pulls him toward drift racing, a sport he has been practicing without knowing it. Underneath the engines and the rivalries is a plain idea: skill built from daily routine can outrun any ambition.
