Inspector Lavardin
Inspecteur Jean Lavardin (Jean Poiret) is a police detective of dry, practiced patience, sent to a provincial village to look into a murder. Claude Chabrol sets him among the dead man's household, where he learns that the widow, Hélène Mons (Bernadette Lafont), is a former lover of his. He has to question her and those around her while the old tie sits in the room, and he may be too close to see the case clearly.
